Welcoming Seluna to Bellrock Technology

Written by Lesley McKee.

We’re delighted to welcome Seluna, a trailblazing Scottish med-tech startup, as a new client of Bellrock Technology!

Seluna is a Scottish med-tech startup, established in 2022 with headquarters in Glasgow. Their vision is to keep children out of hospital through early, remote diagnostics which supports preventative and sustainable healthcare. Seluna empowers doctors to remotely diagnose and monitor childhood sleep and respiratory disorders.

At Seluna, they are developing a Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) which uses machine- learning algorithms to process the complex array of bio-signals obtained during a sleep study. Their algorithms provide automated diagnostic analytics, clinical decision support, and risk stratification to improve diagnostic accuracy, hospital throughput, and departmental efficiency.

Additionally, they are developing a novel, wearable device to permit remote monitoring of multiple sleep and cardiorespiratory bio signals from a single, miniaturised sensor. This combination of the SaMD and machine learning-enabled wearable will provide gold-standard diagnostic accuracy in remote settings, thus promoting equitable access to care, enhancing patient experience, decreasing hospital admissions, and reducing waiting lists.

As a startup with a dedicated and core team of five, Seluna’s core values of honesty, transparency, agility, and ambition are at the heart of everything they do. They believe that collaboration is key to enhancing their impact and achieving their vision.

Therefore, clinical and customer needs are built into the foundation of their product development, thanks to their collaboration with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, one of Europe’s largest health boards. Recognised as the Scottish Graduate Startup of the Year 2024, they also partner with InnovateUK in the Global Incubation Program and are proud cohort members of the Filament Smart Things Accelerator Centre.

Seluna’s challenge was that, despite having significant expertise in developing machine learning models for bio-signal processing, data analytics, and healthcare diagnostics, the software development experience was limited. Without additional support, building out their platform could have taken years.

Lumen® provided the essential framework and infrastructure needed to integrate Seluna’s core intellectual property into a cohesive, market-ready product. By acting as the connective tissue around Seluna’s diagnostic machine-learning pipeline, Lumen® enabled the team to focus on their strengths – innovative diagnostics – without having to build the entire software platform from scratch.

“We’re excited to get started with Lumen®. It will dramatically accelerate our route to market—what would have taken years and required hiring three new team members, Lumen®. will help us achieve this in just a few months. This allows us to rapidly advance our mission of enhancing children’s health through early diagnostics.”
